Imminent Departure-Lisi Raskin

Reported by Bernard Neo

Lisi Raskin utilizes the human nature’s fear of the consequences of wars to sculpt her works and evoking strong uncomfortable emotions in the audience. Using raw and used materials such as wooden planks and aluminum sheets, she creates a subtle ambience with her abstract mimic of millitary installations. Her set up tunnels through a hallway but along the path little rooms are carved out, creating alternative pathways for visitors to venture about. Beneath the vibrancy of colors suggests a tinge of violence.

Walking through her work gives me a very eerie feeling as compared to walking down a normal hallway. Reason may lie within the way she purposely reshape the landscape of the wall into a seemingly menacing entity while contrasting it with brilliant colors.
